New Zealand's self-proclaimed "4th most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy cultural music duo" got their lead turned in Wellington. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement (musician/funnyman and funnyman/musician, severally) started crafting their unique, two-man drollery mélange in 2002, spell the deuce of them were living together at college. Overcome by a dreaming, in which a V shaping of Gibson Flying Vs resembled a gaggle of Concorde airplanes, the band christened themselves Flight of the Conchords and began honing their represent in the local clowning and rock and roll candy clubs about their town in the tardy '90s. By 2002, they could be launch playacting such high profile gigs as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. When they returned to the fest in 2003, they were nominative for the Perrier Award, therefore making them "the near award-winning 4th intimately popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk twosome in New Zealand." Between those gigs, Flight of the Conchords self-released the record record album Folk the World and, by 2005, was the bailiwick of a six-part BBC Radio 2 line series -- a largely jury-rigged map in the nervure of Spinal Tap and Tenacious D. Also in 2005, the group landed a billet on HBO's Friday night serial 1 Night Stand. In 2006, Clement was featured in a series of humourous commercials for the U.S.-based Outback Steakhouse restaurant chain, and later that class, the band penned a share with U.S. indie imprint Sub Pop. The label released the half-studio, half-live EP The Distant Future a year afterwards.

Richard Devine is one of the most gifted (if non prolific) of the producers organized round the Miami neo-electro oasis of Schematic Records. Based in Atlanta, Devine's productions consume the rigid breakbeat swing of prime electro recordings, but too a high arcdegree of DSP (digital signaling processing) thaumaturgy in keeping with Schematic's acknowledged heroes, Autechre. After EPs for a sublabel of Woody McBride's Drop Bass Network and the Devine EP on Schematic, the producer began acquiring a reputation in sophisticated electronics circles with remixes (of material by Aphex Twin, Chris Deluca, Slicker, and Schematic's possess Phoenecia) as intimately as compilation appearances (Ischaemic Folks and Lily of the Valley, both on Schematic). Turned on to Devine's work by praise from Autechre and his remix of Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy," Britain's Warp Records hired him in 2000 to criminal record a uncut. Housewives' Audience Slow To Return

ABC's Desperate Housewives may have continued to dominate the ratings Sunday night, capturing 15.4 million viewers, but the number remained well below that of a couple of years ago when the program regularly captured more than 20 million. But then, ratings for other top network programs Sunday also showed the continuing ratings erosion since the writers' strike. (Sunday's New York Times reported that the television networks have seen six million viewers disappear since the 2007 May sweeps.) Bucking the trend on Sunday was ABC's Brothers & Sisters, which drew 11.02 million viewers to a season-finale episode following Housewives in which two gay characters were married.
